The Challenge
Through gradual deregulation and more flexible rate structures water utilities are under increasing pressure to become more competitive. Consolidation of water companies into convergent multi-service companies is becoming common, increasing the scale and diversity of assets that must be managed, monitored and controlled. RTAP at Work

In the city of London an RTAP-based SCADA system controls water services to 6 million customers. For this system RTAP provides the following services:
- Monitors the supply of 2700 mega liters of water a day through 5 major treatment works, 27 ground water sites and 87 kilometers of tunnels, including 150 unmanned locations.
- Models, collects and monitors flow, pressure and equipment data from over 300,000 i/o points.
- Provides a consistent, uniform operator interface, reducing mimics/graphics from 4500 to 1500 and control popups from 15,000 to 100.
- Monitors trends and alarms from treatments for water quality parameters.
