Industries
RTAP manages pipelines for the largest gas producers in Russia and the largest pipeline operation in North America. For one customer, RTAP is responsible for monitoring the transportation of 1.9 million barrels of refined oil products through over 9,700 miles of pipeline. In addition, RTAP provides real-time automation and optimization of production facilities in some of the harshest onshore and offshore environments in the world.
The Challenge
The oil and gas industry is faced with a complex combination of regulatory, environmental, political and economic forces. Mergers and acquisitions mean the size and capability of automation systems are always expanding. Now more than ever, protection and security of systems controlling production and transportation of our oil & gas supply is a critical concern.
The Solution
RTAP based solutions can be found addressing these challenges in all sectors of the oil & gas industry. The greater the demand for scalability, reliability and flexibility, the more RTAP's capabilities meet the challenge. A true object oriented database provides a strong foundation to logically organize growing systems, for both design and maintenance efficiency.
A powerful development environment satisfies the need for application expandability. RTAP is also designed for high availability applications, especially in more demanding large-scale and evolving systems. To address emerging cybersecurity challenges Industrial Defender has introduced its complementary Industrial Defender security solution. Industrial Defender is the first real-time security solution designed specifically for industrial automation environments.
RTAP at Work
RTAP manages pipelines for the largest gas companies in Russia and the largest pipeline company in North America. In addition, RTAP provides real-time automation and optimization of production facilities onshore and offshore worldwide. For one customer, RTAP is responsible for monitoring the transportation of 1.9 million barrels of refined oil products through over 9,700 miles of pipeline. Specific monitoring parameters include:
- Consumption of 895 megawatts of electricity, provided by 25 different utilities to ensure compliance within contracted limits and rate incentives
- Line pressure for compliance within allowable pipeline limits and leak detection applications
- Optimization of pipeline pressure, flow rates and energy efficiency at 125 pumping stations
- Material movements and batch tracking of up to 200 different batches throughout the pipelines
- Equipment maintenance parameters such as operational hours
- Security information pertaining to cyberattacks on the SCADA system and physical security of remote installations
